MOVE ON WHEN READY

Terrell Academy students who qualify may participate in MOWR beginning in 11th grade. Eleventh grade students are allowed to take 2 MOWR courses per semester (total of 4 for the year). Twelfth grade students are allowed to take 3 MOWR courses per semester (total of 6 for the year).

Move On When Ready (MOWR) is the new dual enrollment program that allows high school students (9th – 12th grade) to earn college credits, or even a certificate, diploma or associate degree, while working on their high school diploma. MOWR replaces Accel, HOPE Grant for dual enrollment and the previous Move on When Ready.

“Move On When Ready is designed to make it easier for students to take advantage of all the options to enroll in college courses while still in high school,” said Pennie Strong, Vice President, Student Aid Services at GSFC. “Students who participate in a dual enrollment program are more likely to go to college and earn a college degree. This contributes to the college and career readiness initiative taking place throughout the state.”

Some of the benefits of the new MOWR program:

• No residency requirement – To be eligible, a student only needs to be enrolled in a participating high school. Home study programs must be pursuant to Code Section 20-2-690 to participate.

• Summer semester enrollment –Students can enroll in MOWR classes during the summer months.

• Broader course offering – Whether online or on-campus, as long as the course is listed in the MOWR Course Directory, it’s available to MOWR applicants. The Course Directory includes comparable required courses such as degree and non-degree level core courses (English, math, science, social studies and foreign language), career, technical and agricultural education courses, as well as electives.

• Additional funding – The specific MOWR award amount will vary based on the postsecondary institution and the number of credit hours in which a student is enrolled. In most cases, awards will cover all required standard tuition, mandatory fees and required book expenses. In some instances, students may be responsible for lost or damaged books, books that are considered optional, or specific course-related fees, such as a lab fee.
